The Public Health Department has announced that from March 1, 2023, confirmation PCR testing for COVID-19 positives will no longer be required and COVID-19 testing centers will stop operating on all three islands.
In addition, positive online reporting of lateral flow tests (LFT) will also no longer be required. However, it is still recommended that individuals who test positive for COVID-19 or are primary contacts of positive cases follow existing advice on isolation and testing.
Vaccinated and unvaccinated COVID-19 positive persons will need to isolate for 6 days and can leave isolation on day 7 if they have no symptoms. Meanwhile, vaccinated and unvaccinated contacts of COVID-19 positive persons must conduct daily lateral flow testing for 6 days but may continue their usual activities. The day of your original positive LFT test is considered Day 0.
The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Nick Gent, explained that the voluntary confirmation PCR test is no longer providing useful epidemiology information due to the relatively small numbers of people seeking it, and encouraged individuals to test themselves with a LFT device if they experience COVID-19 symptoms and follow recommended isolation requirements.
“Relatively small numbers of people are now seeking voluntary confirmation PCR test when LFT COVID positive, and this service is no longer providing useful epidemiology information,” stated Dr. Nick Gent, Chief Medical Officer at the Ministry of Health and Wellnes.
“I encourage persons in the community to still test themselves with a LFT device if they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and adhere to our recommended isolation requirements.”
